Very big and deep hole in the road

My son was driving down green Dragon Lane last night and drove into a very big hole/pothole. There had been works on that road but no signage or covers have been put over the hole or around it to warn traffic of the dangers.. after driving into the pothole, my son has found a sign which states foitway ahead closed and 2 cones. He has now put these in front of the hole to alert other drivers. I am unsure if the damage which this has caused my car as I am on holiday and my son will not be able to check this as he will be joining me. I will asses the car on my return next week. Please can you let me know who was undertaking the wires on the road. This was near pupil referral unit PRU on green dragon lane.
