I am writing to formally express my deep concerns regarding the quality of street cleaning services provided on Penwerris Avenue, as contracted by the local council. On the morning of September 22, 2023, I observed two street cleaners engaged in the task of weeding along Penwerris Avenue. Regrettably, their efforts appear to be substandard and fall significantly short of the expected standards for maintaining our public infrastructure.

At the time of my observation, it was evident that the street cleaners had only managed to address a fraction of Penwerris Avenue, leaving the vast majority of the road still overrun by unsightly and potentially hazardous weeds. This negligence has resulted in pavements becoming increasingly perilous, particularly during wet weather conditions, as the overgrown weeds contribute to slippery surfaces.

I have taken the liberty of attaching photographic evidence, captured at 4:30 PM on the same day, which unmistakably depicts the limited progress made by the street cleaners. This documentation serves to underscore the glaring insufficiency of the services being provided by the contracted personnel.

It has come to my attention that the current contractors frequently exhibit a pattern of inadequate performance, wherein they allocate minimal time and effort to each designated location before marking it as completed. This practice raises serious doubts about the value for money that the council is receiving in exchange for these services.

In light of the persistently subpar performance and the evident failure to meet contractual obligations, I respectfully urge the council to consider revisiting the terms of the existing contract with the service providers responsible for Penwerris Avenue. It is incumbent upon the council to safeguard the interests and safety of its constituents by ensuring that public funds are allocated judiciously and that services are executed to the highest standards.
