Restrictions & repairs taking too long

Reported via mobile in the Road obstruction category by Richard Eason at 07:47, Sat 25 March 2023

Sent to Hounslow Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4356389.

Traffic light restrictions have been in place at junction of Jersey Road, Windmill Lane & Syon Lane for weeks and there doesn’t seem to be visible progress on repairs to the damaged building.

These restrictions are causing congestion, delays & pollution for thousands of residents every week. We wouldn’t allow this duration of delays in other locations, so why here? Can something smart be done to expedite the repairs and/or reduce the disruption? Please advise

  • Saturday 8th April I was in the area again and can see no progress. The temporary traffic lights continue causing congestion, delays & pollution for thousands of residents every week.

I appreciate that a building was damaged in a road traffic collision and that there may be complications with insurance claims, however that does not justify such a significant obstruction for all road users which has now been running for c.2 months with no apparent resolution in sight.

We would not allow this duration of delays in other locations (e.g. London Road, Bath Road etc), so why here? Can something smart be done to expedite the repairs and/or reduce the disruption?

  • The property owner is responsible for securing the building before erecting the scaffolding. While it is frustrating that the property owner is waiting for an insurance decision, it is not appropriate to put up scaffolding without a confirmed plan in place. The council must prioritize the public's welfare and act now instead of waiting for months for an insurance reply. It is crucial to find a better solution that ensures the public's safety and convenience.

Therefore, we urge the council to compel the property owner to remove the scaffolding until an insurance decision has been concluded. The council must take the necessary measures to ensure that the public's welfare is not compromised and work towards finding a solution that benefits everyone involved.

  • Yes the issue has worsened - traffic today went as far back as Windmill Lane\Tentelow Lane. My Journey for the last 4+ weeks has been horrendous. Seen two accidents caused by the traffic especially around the bends (blind spots). Highways control and the council need to get on this now rather than continue to not do anything about this. My journey today was over 45 mins just to get down Windmill Lane and normally will take about 5 mins. Why is this not been treated with any urgency, I simply do not know.

  • The road outside the builder shop has been obstructed since early February due to an accident, and it's taking an eternity to resolve because of a dispute between the driver of the colliding vehicle and the builders shop. Now, here's the infuriating part: the builders shop could be held responsible for not completing the pending work, and the council should be accountable for ensuring public safety and not obstructing the road for an extended period. But both parties are displaying an appalling level of ridiculousness. The builders shop is filled with imbeciles, and the council is even more idiotic, completely disregarding the well-being of the public. They don't give a damn about public safety, causing traffic chaos and environmental damage by forcing cars to wait longer and burn excessive fuel.

The council should be heavily fined and compelled to reimburse all the people who regularly use the road for their failure and sheer incompetence in dealing with this situation. However, now the council has stooped to such a ridiculous level that they would shamelessly lie and claim that this matter is not their responsibility or within their jurisdiction. It's unbelievable that we're living in a supposedly modern society that allows such nonsensical systems to exist.

  • The situation outside the builder's shop, which has persisted since early February due to an accident, is an infuriating display of incompetence and disregard for public safety. The abhorrent actions of both the builder's shop and the council are nothing short of ridiculous.

The builder's shop is populated by individuals who can only be described as imbeciles, showing a shocking lack of responsibility for completing their pending work. Meanwhile, the council, in its infinite idiocy, callously disregards the well-being of the public. They have demonstrated a complete apathy toward public safety, allowing traffic chaos and environmental damage to fester as cars are forced to wait indefinitely and burn excessive fuel.

The council deserves not just heavy fines but should be compelled to reimburse all those who rely on this road regularly. Their failure and sheer incompetence in handling this situation are beyond belief. To make matters worse, the council has stooped to such a laughable level that they shamelessly deny any responsibility or jurisdiction in this matter. It's inconceivable that we must endure such a nonsensical system in what is supposed to be a modern society. To this ridiculous council, we are nothing more than meaningless numbers. This department's actions are nothing short of appalling, and the individuals employed therein are the epitome of incompetence and indifference. It is clear that nobody cares about the residents or their safety; we are simply inconveniences to them.
