Pruning / pollarding hasn't been done for years in Ashbourne Grove. With the council about to start building new affordable housing at the end of Wilton Avenue, the amount of parking spaces in Wilton Avenue will decrease during construction, and then likely decrease permanently because of additional cars from the new housing project. Ashbourne Grove is the natural alternative parking for Wilton Avenue with most houses having back-door entrances there.
Aside from impacting the houses by taking increasing amounts of daylight away, the leaf matter causes a significant mess in autumn when it falls, with the residents left to clean it up in their gardens.
The sap from the trees is difficult to remove and the bird excrement damages cars and so no residents choose to park underneath it voluntarily - it effectively removes two to three parkings per tree.
The size of some tree's roots is becoming an issue for the side walk and some back walls.
We would request that this is treated as high priority on the list to significantly prune back/pollard, at least the first tree on the Western side of Ashbourne Grove which the situation was described for in particular. Please have a look and act accordingly.
